Nestled within the Rahuri taluka of the Ahilyanagar (formerly Ahmednagar) district lay a picturesque village named Varjuwadi. Because the village was once held as a fiefdom by a nobleman named Tahir Khan, it eventually came to be known as Tahharabad. In this tranquil hamlet lived a village kulkarni (accountant) named Dadopant Kamble. Dadopant and his devoted wife, Gangabai, were exceptionally virtuous, honest, and gracious souls, beloved and respected by every member of the village community.

For the most part, their lives flowed with serene continuity. Yet, a deep, silent sorrow shadowed their hearts: they were childless. Years slipped by, but the sweet melody of a cradle’s rocking never graced their courtyard. In times of such profound longing, ordinary mortals often surrender to despair, cursing their fate or turning away from the divine. But Dadopant and Gangabai were made of finer, sturdier cloth.

Influenced by the noble company of their dear friend, Moreshwar Baba, the couple had cultivated a deep love for literature, spiritual discourse, and the path of Parmartha (the ultimate truth). This spiritual grounding fostered an unshakeable, luminous positivity in Dadopant’s outlook. He would often reflect:

"The Divine has blessed us with this precious life and given us the noble privilege of serving others. Whatever unfolds in our path holds a hidden, benevolent purpose orchestrated by God."

Rather than nursing his grief or yielding to melancholy, Dadopant poured his heart into his duties as village accountant, executing his responsibilities with scrupulous honesty and inner joy.

The Unbroken Vow of the Wari

Dadopant harbored a boundless, unwavering faith in Lord Vitthal. Through scorching summers, torrential monsoons, and biting winters, he undertook the sacred pilgrimage of the Pandharpur Wari on foot, walking the long miles barefoot for thirty-six consecutive years. This annual pilgrimage was not merely a physical journey; it was a living testament to his hope, endurance, and absolute surrender to the Lord.

One day, Gangabai expressed a long-cherished desire:

"This year, I wish to walk the path to Pandhari by your side. Together, we shall seek the blessed darshan of our beloved Pandurang."

Witnessing the blossoming of such joyful hope in his wife’s heart filled Dadopant with profound delight. Marching alongside the vibrant dindis of fellow warkaris, chanting divine abhangs with every step, they finally reached the holy town of Pandharpur.

At the Feet of Pandurang

After bathing in the purifying waters of the Chandrabhaga River, they entered the sanctum of the Vitthal temple. The very moment their eyes rested upon the dark, compassionate form of Lord Vitthal standing arms-akimbo on a brick, every vestige of sorrow vanished from their minds. An extraordinary, deep peace enveloped their souls.

Dadopant joined his palms in prayer before the deity, yet he asked for nothing for himself! With exquisite humility, he whispered:

"Lord, the years are advancing, and my youth is fading. I ask only one boon of you: grant me the strength to serve humanity, and send into our lives a true Wari devotee who will carry forward these noble thoughts and awaken the spirit of righteousness in society. Whatever else you choose to bestow, in that I shall remain forever content."

This was true, unselfish devotion—a faith that demanded nothing, yet trusted everything.

The Blessing of the Sage

As they stepped out of the sacred temple, their hearts overflowing, they encountered a radiant, ascetic sage. Dadopant and Gangabai bowed low in reverence. Looking deeply into the couple, the sage instantly perceived the purity, patience, deep faith, and radiant positivity glowing in their eyes.

With profound tenderness, the sage spoke:

"For long years, you have performed your worldly duties with absolute honesty, asking for no reward. In the face of life's trials, you never abandoned your positive spirit or your faith in the Divine. It is an immutable law of nature and grace that those who walk with a pure heart and unwavering trust in God are ultimately met with joy. Who knows? Pandurang Himself may soon send His own devoted Wari soul to bless your home."

Hearing these prophetic words, tears of uncontained joy welled up in the eyes of Dadopant and Gangabai. The spark of hope within their hearts blazed brighter than ever. Their conviction that goodness, faith, and positive thought are never lost grew deeper and more unshakeable.

Leaving behind all anxiety, cradling a luminous hope for the future, and anchoring their souls entirely in the grace of Pandurang, they turned their footsteps joyfully back toward their home village.
