Chapter 4 : The First Pilgrimage and the Ultimate Purpose of Life

Reading the exquisite descriptions of Pandharpur within the sacred Gatha of Saint Tukaram awoke an intense, irresistible yearning in young Mahipati's heart. He turned to his father with an earnest plea:
"Baba, please take me to Pandhari! I long to witness that divine atmosphere with my own eyes."
Seeing this profound spiritual hunger blossom within his son, Dadopant's heart swelled with quiet joy. Preparations were made, and they set forth for Pandharpur, accompanied by fellow devotees from the village. Walking the long paths while singing jubilant abhangs, the dindi arrived at the holy threshold of Pandharpur.
After bathing in the purifying currents of the Chandrabhaga River, the pilgrims made their way into the sanctum of the Vitthal temple. The sight of the magnificent deity standing in tranquil grace, combined with the pure, selfless devotion and unwavering faith of the thousands of warkaris gathered there, deeply moved Mahipati's soul. Standing before the Lord with joined palms, he offered a silent prayer and locked a resolute determination within his heart:
"I care nothing for the illusions of worldly wealth; my life's sole mission shall be to carry the wisdom of the saints to every corner of humanity!"
The Blessings of a Sage
The following morning, as they lingered within the temple precincts, they encountered a wise, venerable ascetic. Mahipati approached him and poured out his heart's deepest aspirations and his sacred resolve.
Sensing the extraordinary brilliance, sincerity, and profound reverence for the saints burning within the young boy, the sage gently stroked Mahipati’s head with infinite affection. He blessed him, saying:
"Child, your thoughts are noble and vast. Devote yourself deeply to your studies. I firmly believe that in the days to come, you shall accomplish the monumental task of sharing the lives and teachings of the saints with the entire world."
This gentle touch of encouragement and prophetic blessing from a wise soul lit an unshakeable confidence within Mahipati. Carrying a crystal-clear vision of his life’s true purpose, young Mahipati and his father turned their steps back toward their beloved village of Tahharabad, their hearts overflowing with radiant joy.
