Chapter 6 :The Farewell of Parents and the Unshakable Resolve of Mahipati

Dadopant had now grown heavily burdened by the years. Handing over the ancestral responsibilities of the village kulkarni (accountant) and gramjoshi (priest)—offices preserved across generations—to his capable son, Mahipati, he devoted his remaining days entirely to sacred reading and the contemplation of the divine. Time flowed on in quiet contentment until, in accordance with nature's inevitable law, both Dadopant and Gangabai departed this mortal world one after the other.
At that tender juncture, Mahipati was scarcely sixteen years of age! The grief of losing the protective canopy of one’s parents is vast beyond measure. Yet, Mahipati stood resolute. Knowing that duty is stern and must be fulfilled with unwavering grace, he set aside his personal sorrow and stepped forward to shoulder the responsibilities of both his family and the village with scrupulous diligence, mirroring the integrity of his father.
The true hallmark of Mahipati’s character was that even while expertly managing the affairs of the village, his mind remained ever immersed in spiritual truth and noble thoughts. Just as a woman pounding grain in a mortar may converse with those around her, yet her undivided attention remains fixed upon ensuring her hand never slips beneath the falling pestle, so too was Mahipati's existence! He performed every domestic and worldly duty with wholehearted devotion, yet his inner gaze remained eternally anchored in righteous action and the pursuit of the supreme spirit.
Carrying forward his father's sacred legacy, he began undertaking the traditional annual pilgrimages of the Ashadhi and Kartiki Waris barefoot, walking the long miles in humble devotion. His extraordinary humility, profound compassion for all living creatures, altruistic nature, and selfless service to the community earned him the deep reverence of every soul in the village.
All things proceeded in serene harmony, yet an hour was fast approaching—a moment destined to grant a magnificent and historic turning point to the life of Mahipati!
