ओशोंनी मुल्ला नसरूद्दिनची एक कथा सांगितली होती. एकदा मुल्ला त्याच्या मित्रासोबत गप्पा मारत बसला होता. मस्त मैफिल रंगली. अनेक विषय चर्चेला आल्याने वेळ कसा गेला ते कळलेच नाही. आता रात्र बरीच झाल्याने भूकेची जाणीव झाली. इतक्या रात्री बाहेर जेवण मिळणे कठीण होते. काय करावे, याचे विचारमंथन सुरू असतानाच मुल्ला म्हणाला, “अरे काळजी कसली करता? माझे घर इथून जवळच आहे. आपण माझ्या घरी जाऊ! माझी बायको आपल्याला काही तरी गरमागरम जेवण तयार करून देईल.”
सगळे खूश झाले. त्यांनी मुल्लाचं घर गाठलं. त्याच्या घरात अष्टदारिद्य्र! अन्नाचा कणही नसल्यानं बायको आणि पोरं पाणी पिऊन उपाशी झोपली होती. मुल्लानं आत जाऊन त्याचे मित्र आल्याची वर्दी दिली. ‘त्यांना काही तरी खायला करून दे’ म्हटल्यावर स्वाभाविकच बायको चिडली. धान्य नाही, भाजीपाला नाही, तेल नाही, तिखट नाही की मिठही नाही. मग यांच्यासाठी काय करणार?
मुल्लालाही वाईट वाटलं. आता काय करणार? तो म्हणाला, “बाहेर जा आणि माझ्या मित्रांना सांग की मी घरी आलोच नाही.” बायको बाहेर आली. केविलवाणेपणे तिने मुल्लांच्या मित्राला सांगितलं की, “हे अजून घरी आले नाहीत!”
मित्र म्हणाले, “का खोटं बोलताय वहिनी...? मुल्ला आमच्या समोरच घरात गेला.”
मुल्लाच्या बायकोनं पोटतिडिकेनं सांगितलं की, “अजून हे आले नाहीत. रात्र बरीच झालीय. तुम्ही निघा आता. उद्या त्यांना भेटा.”
मित्र काही ऐकेनात. मुल्ला आपल्या समोरच आत गेलाय हे ते सांगत राहिले. हे सगळं बघून मुल्ला आतून बाहेर आला. अतिशय क्रोधित होत तो म्हणाला, “माझी बायको मी घरात नाही हे तुम्हाला इतक्या तळमळीनं सांगतेय तर तुम्ही विश्वास का ठेवत नाही? भल्याचा जमानाच राहिला नाही. इतक्या रात्री एखादी महिला इतक्या आर्ततेनं सांगत असेल की तिचा नवरा घरात नाही तर तुम्ही तिच्यावर विश्वास ठेवलाच पाहिजे. निघा आता. ती म्हणतेय त्यानुसार उद्या मी आल्यावर मला भेटा...”
मुल्लाची ही गोष्ट आठवण्याचं कारण म्हणजे आपले आजचे सत्ताधारी! ‘खोटं बोल पण रेटून बोल’ असा राजकारण्यांचा बाणा असतो. ‘मी सांगतोय ना हे खरं तर मग ते खरंच! मी जर म्हटलं हे खोटं तर ते खोटंच!!’
त्यांना विरोध करायचा नाही, प्रश्न विचारायचे नाहीत. तुम्ही विरोध केलात तर तुमचं भवितव्य संपलं.
2014 पूर्वीचा काळ आठवतोय का? त्यावेळी तेव्हाच्या विरोधी पक्षानं काँग्रेस-राष्ट्रवादी काँग्रेसच्या विरूद्ध जंग जंग पछाडलं होतं. विरोधी पक्ष नेते असलेले देवेंद्र फडणवीस सांगायचे, ‘सरकारविरूद्ध माझ्याकडे बैलगाडीभर पुरावे आहेत.’ त्यासाठी त्यांनी मुंबईत बैलगाडीही आणली. अजित पवार यांच्यावर सत्तर हजार कोटींच्या सिंचन घोटाळ्याचा आरोप केला. राज्य सहकारी बँकेचे कर्ज प्रकरण, साखर कारखान्यांचे घोटाळे, पेट्रोलचे वाढते दर, भस्मासूरासारखी जाळत जाणारी महागाई असे किती तरी विषय, किती तरी प्रकरणे... एकदा तर मंत्रालयाला आग लागली होती. बऱ्याच फाईल जळून गेल्या. त्यावेळी याच लोकांनी उपहासानं सांगितलं होतं, ‘सगळ्या फाईल जळाल्या. महाराष्ट्र भ्रष्टाचारमुक्त झाला!’
तेलगी स्टॅम्प घोटाळा प्रचंड गाजला. बनावट स्टॅम्प आणि महाराष्ट्र सदन घोटाळ्यावरून छगन भुजबळांच्या विरूद्ध देशभर रान माजवलं. सत्तेत आल्यावर भुजबळांना अटकही केली. पुढं काय झालं? त्याच छगनरावांना मंत्रीमंडळात सहभागी करून घेतलं! ज्या-ज्या नेत्यांवर यांनी टीकेचे प्रचंड घाव घातले, ज्यांचं ज्यांचं राजकीय भवितव्य संपवण्यासाठी आटोकाट प्रयत्न केले त्या सर्वांना सत्तेत सोबत घेऊन राज्याचा गाडा हाकत आहेत. महाराष्ट्राचा विचार करता देवेंद्र फडणवीस मुख्यमंत्री झाल्यापासून त्यांनी भाजपातल्या किती लोकांना मोठं केलं? विरोधक असोत वा स्वपक्षातले लोक प्रत्येकाचे काही ना काही घोटाळे काढायचे, बेछूट आरोप करायचे आणि त्यांच्या मानेवर त्याच्या भीतीची टांगती तलवार ठेवून काम पुढे रेटायचं, असाच सारा मामला दिसतोय. विनोद तावडेंना दीर्घकाळ महाराष्ट्रापासून दूर ठेवणं, पंकजा मुंडेचा चिक्की घोटाळा, एकनाथ खडसेंची ससेहोलपट, सुधीर मुनगुंटीवारांकडे दुर्लक्ष, किरीट सोमय्यांचे चावट व्हिडिओ हे सगळे कशाचे निदर्शक म्हणावे?
‘ब्राह्मण मुख्यमंत्री नको’, असा एक विचार मनोज जरांगेचे आंदोलन ऐन भरात असताना पुढे आला होता. त्यावेळी तरूण नेतृत्व म्हणून मराठा समाजाच्या मुरलीधर मोहोळ यांचे नाव पुढे येत होते. देवेंद्र दिल्लीत जाणार आणि मुरलीअण्णा राज्याची सूत्रे सांभाळणार, अशीही चर्चा सुरू झाली. ही चर्चा भरात असतानाच पुण्यातील जैन बोर्डिंगचा विषय पद्धतशीरपणे पुढे आला. तीन हजार कोटींची जमीन गोखले बिल्डरने कवडीमोल भावात घेतल्याचे सांगितले गेले. मुरली मोहोळ जी गाडी वापरायचे तिही एका बिल्डरच्या नावे असल्याचे पुढे आणण्यात आले. ‘25-30 वर्षांपूर्वी कुस्तीत मार लागल्याने पायाची शस्त्रक्रिया करून घ्यायची आहे,’ म्हणत मुरलीअण्णा दवाखान्यात जाऊन बसले. जैन बोर्डिंगचं पुढं काय झालं? दोषी नेमके कोण? कुणावर काही कारवाई झाली का? या व्यवहाराला स्थगिती दिली गेली असली तरी पुढे काय? हे कुणालाच कळलं नाही.
अशोक खरात प्रकरणात दमानियाबाई रोज नवनवीन विधाने करत होत्या. फोन कॉलचे रेकॉर्ड देत होत्या. त्यांना हे सगळं कोण पुरवत होतं? सामान्य माणूस ही आणि अशी माहिती काढू शकतो का? या प्रकरणात दीपक केसरकरांपासून एकनाथराव शिंदे यांच्यापर्यंत अनेकांची नावे पुढे आली. खरातचे अमित शहा यांच्यासोबतचे फोटो माध्यमात आले. महिला आयोगाच्या अध्यक्षांचा राजीनामा घेतला गेला. नको नको त्या क्लिप व्हायरल झाल्या. नुकतेच खरातचे निकटवर्तीय आणि शिवनिका ट्रस्टचे उपाध्यक्ष जितेंद्र शेळके यांच्या समृद्घी महामार्गावरील अपघाती मृत्युची बातमी आली. काही दिवसांनी हे सगळं प्रकरण मागे पडेल?
अजितदादा पवार असतानाच पार्थ पवार यांच्यावर आरोप करण्यात आले. मुंढव्यातील अठराशे कोटींची जमीन त्यांच्या अमेडिया या कंपनीने बोगस कागदपत्रे तयार करून घेतल्याचे सांगितले गेले. त्याचं पुढे काय झालं? दादांच्या अपघातप्रकरणी गुन्हा नोंदवला जावा, अशी रास्त मागणी असताना त्याला दाद का दिली जात नाही? रोहित पवार यांच्यासह अनेक लोकप्रतिनिधी अशी मागणी करत असताना यातील जे काही असेल ते सत्य पुढे येऊ नये असे कुणाला वाटते का?
धनंजय मुंडे यांच्या मागेही चौकशीचा ससेमिरा लावला. विरोधक असोत वा पक्षातले प्रबळ उमेदवार असोत त्या सर्वांना मागे ठेवण्यात एखाद्या नेत्याला यश येत असेल तर हे त्याचे राजकीय कौशल्य वाखाणण्याजोगे आहे. आपल्या राज्याला हे असे ‘कौशल्य’ परवडणारे आहे का? यशवंतराव चव्हाण आणि शरद पवार यांचे ‘कॉम्बो’ म्हणजे देवेंद्र फडणवीस असे सांगितले जाते. मग इतक्या ‘धूर्त’ नेत्याला राज्यातली गुन्हेगारी का कमी करता येऊ नये? राज्याचं गृहमंत्रीपद सांभाळताना या पदाला ते खरंच न्याय देत आहेत का? ज्याप्रमाणे केंद्रात केवळ आणि केवळ नरेंद्र मोदी हा एकच चेहरा आहे त्याप्रमाणे राज्यात देवेंद्र यांच्याशिवाय दुसरा कोणताही नेता दिसत नाही. हे घडले की घडवून आणले हे सामान्य माणसाला वेगळे सांगायला नकोच. राजकारणातील जपलेली मूल्ये, शिस्त, संघटन, पारदर्शकता, राष्ट्र प्रथम या व अशा शब्दांचा सातत्याने वापर करणाऱ्या भाजपला इतरांपेक्षा वेगळा पक्ष म्हणून ओळखले जायचे. त्यांचे हे धोरण त्यांच्या कृतितून दिसते आहे का? एनकेनप्रकारे विरोधकांना संपवून सर्व संस्था, सर्व महत्त्वाची पदे, सर्व अधिकार आपल्याकडेच मिळवायचे हे सध्याचे ‘ऑपरेशन लोटस’ आहे का? याचे उत्तर मिळायलाच हवे.

Editorial - Operation 'Lotus'
Osho once shared a famous tale of Mulla Nasrudin. One evening, Mulla was engrossed in a deep conversation with his friends. The gathering was so lively that they lost track of time. As night fell, hunger struck. Finding food late at night was difficult, so Mulla confidently invited them over: "Don't worry! My house is nearby. My wife will cook us something hot and delicious."
The friends were thrilled and reached Mulla’s doorstep. However, Mulla’s house was plagued by abject poverty. There wasn't a grain of food; his wife and children had gone to bed hungry, having only drunk water. When Mulla went inside and asked his wife to cook for his guests, she was naturally furious. No grain, no vegetables, no oil, not even salt—how could she cook?
Feeling cornered and ashamed, Mulla told her, "Go out and tell them I haven't come home yet." The wife went out and pathetically told the friends, "He hasn't returned home."
The friends were confused. "Why are you lying? Mulla entered the house right in front of us!"
She insisted with desperate conviction, "He is not here. It’s late; please leave and meet him tomorrow."
As the friends continued to argue, Mulla himself stormed out of the house. In a fit of staged rage, he shouted, "My wife is telling you with such sincerity that I am not home—why don't you believe her? Has the world lost all goodness? If a woman tells you so earnestly at this hour that her husband isn't home, you must trust her! Now leave. Meet me tomorrow when I 'return'."
The Politics of "Bold Deception"
The reason for recalling this story is our current ruling class. Today’s politicians live by a single motto: "Lie, but lie with absolute confidence." Their stance is simple: "If I say it's true, it's true. If I say it's a lie, it's a lie."
Opposition is discouraged, and questions are forbidden. To resist is to invite the end of your political future.
Remember the era before 2014? The then-Opposition (BJP) went to extreme lengths against the Congress-NCP government. Devendra Fadnavis, then the Opposition Leader, used to claim he had a "bullock-cart full of evidence" against the government—he even brought a physical bullock-cart to Mumbai for a protest. Allegations of a 70,000-crore irrigation scam were hurled at Ajit Pawar. Issues like the State Cooperative Bank case, sugar factory scams, soaring petrol prices, and "demon-like" inflation were daily talking points.
When a fire broke out at the Mantralaya (Secretariat) and many files were destroyed, these same people mocked the government, saying, "All files are burnt. Maharashtra is finally corruption-free!"
The Great Political U-Turn
The Telgi stamp scam and the Maharashtra Sadan case were used to create a nationwide outcry against Chhagan Bhujbal. Once in power, they arrested him. But what happened later? That same Chhagan Bhujbal was inducted into the Cabinet!
The very leaders they attacked with ferocious rhetoric—those whose political careers they tried to annihilate—are now their partners in running the state. Looking at the trajectory since Devendra Fadnavis became Chief Minister, one must ask: how many people within the BJP has he actually allowed to grow?
The strategy seems clear: dig up scams, make wild allegations, and keep the "sword of fear" hanging over the necks of rivals and allies alike. Consider the evidence:
Vinod Tawde being kept away from Maharashtra politics for a long time.
The "Chikki Scam" allegations against Pankaja Munde.
The political isolation of Eknath Khadse.
The sidelining of Sudhir Mungantiwar.
The controversial videos of Kirit Somaiya.
Power Plays and Character Assassination
When the Manoj Jarange protests were at their peak, a sentiment emerged: "We don't want a Brahmin Chief Minister." At that time, the young Maratha leadership of Murlidhar Mohol gained traction. Rumors swirled that Devendra would move to Delhi while Mohol would take the reins of the state.
Suddenly, the "Jain Boarding" land issue in Pune was systematically brought to light. It was alleged that Gokhale Builders bought land worth 3,000 crores for a pittance, and the car Mohol used belonged to a builder. Soon, Mohol checked into a hospital, citing an old wrestling injury that needed surgery. What happened to the Jain Boarding case? Who was guilty? No one knows. The stay on the deal remains, but the truth is buried.
The same pattern appeared in the Ashok Kharat case. Anjali Damania was releasing daily statements and phone records. Who was providing this high-level data to her? Names ranging from Deepak Kesarkar to Eknath Shinde surfaced. Photos of Kharat with Amit Shah went viral. The Chairperson of the Women's Commission was forced to resign. Then, recently, Jitendra Shelke—a close associate of Kharat—died in a suspicious accident on the Samruddhi Expressway. Will this case, too, fade into oblivion?
The "Combo" Leader and the Moral Decay
Similar tactics were used against Parth Pawar regarding land in Mundhwa, and Dhananjay Munde was hounded by inquiries. If a leader succeeds in suppressing every strong candidate—whether in the opposition or their own party—it might be called "political skill." But is this "skill" good for our state?
Devendra Fadnavis is often described as a "combo" of Yashwantrao Chavan’s vision and Sharad Pawar’s shrewdness. If he is indeed such a "cunning" leader, why can't he curb the rising crime in the state? Is he truly doing justice to the Home Ministry?
Just as the Center has only one face—Narendra Modi—it appears the state is being molded to show only Devendra. Whether this happened naturally or was meticulously engineered is obvious to the common man.
The BJP, which constantly uses words like "values," "discipline," "transparency," and "Nation First," once claimed to be a "party with a difference." Do their actions reflect this today? Is the current "Operation Lotus" simply a means to destroy the opposition and consolidate all institutions, positions, and power into one hand?
The people deserve an answer.
